Lair of the Ymir (2006)
A specialty commission for Mel Hynes of Two Lumps
fame, this terrarium consists of a curved-front aquarium, with a
Nepenthes hybrid, ferns, and a cork bark backdrop. Complementing
the scene was a Ymir figure from a discontinued line of resin figures
inspired by the works of Ray Harryhausen.
STATUS: Commission, Not for Sale.
the iTerrarium (2008)
The iTerrarium started as a recycling project, when the horror writer Nicholas Kaufmann
decided to retire his Blueberry G3 iMac at the end of 2007. The
modification included removing the electronics but retaining such
features as the speakers and the CD-ROM slot, sealing the inside to
retain moisture, cutting out the handle on back for access to the
interior, replacing the screen with standard window glass, and fitting
and wiring a compact fluorescent fixture to the interior. The
plant is a Nepenthes hybrid
with traps that complemented the color of the iMac, surrounded with
long-fiber sphagnum moss and and a backdrop of cork bark.
STATUS: For sale, $125
